A Titan Jupiter Massage Chair: Well Worth the Purchase
December 9, 2024
You stare at some items for ages, wondering if and when you'll ever be able to afford them. These items would bring you joy, comfort, and a sense of success.
For me, that was always a massage chair.
I'm lucky that I am very physically active. I work out six days a week, but as I’ve hit middle age, that has meant more aches and pains than I care to think about. I also love massages and have since I was a young adult.
These two passions have collided in the form of wanting a massage chair, and THAT is something I’ve wanted since I was a kid. I remember being around ten or eleven, going to the mall, and hanging out in the Sharper Image store. They had a massage chair, and I used to beg my dad to get one....he would say no, of course. As a teen, I’d do the same thing, hanging out in the demo chair until a clerk politely but firmly told me I should let someone else use said chair.
I didn't stop wanting that chair as I got older and had my own children. More recently, visiting the mall shifted to web browsing. As a result, I would occasionally spend time on massage chair websites, searching for the chair that was right for me.
Of course, I wasn’t made of money, and these chairs were expensive. A good massage chair could cost as much as $8,000 - $10,000, with mid-level models still costing around $5,000. As a young man, this number wasn’t affordable. I genuinely tried to be responsible with my money, and spending such a large sum — on such a limited budget — wasn’t realistic.
Fortunately, like many, I was lucky enough to develop career success. My job responsibilities continued to elevate, and so did my income levels. Slowly but surely, my dream of buying a massage chair became more attainable. As such, I began to look at websites more frequently and even found an actual store in a nearby mall.
What ultimately motivated me was multi-faceted. Not only did my income grow, but so did my physical activity. I began narrowing my search for the right chair and eventually found a chair that met my needs: The Titan Jupiter LE Premium. The chair came with various features that fit my needs, including a body scan function, an L-Track massager (meaning that the massaging elements could move vertically and horizontally), multiple modes, and a zero gravity function. It also came with a warranty. With two young children, that seemed like a good decision!
The chair was on sale when I bought it, and the purchase price was ultimately around $5,000. Fortunately, my good sense of fiscal responsibility was a huge help: I got a zero percent interest loan to finance the purchase, and I’ve been steadily making payments to ensure that I keep good credit and maintain an excellent price on the chair.
Has it been worth it? Heck yes. The chair has helped me feel physically and emotionally better. I have always had difficulty sleeping, and I’ve found that a few minutes in the chair — combined with a good book or a relaxing video — can help me doze off at the end of a long day. I’ve also noticed a physical difference: On days when I go for a long run or have a good workout in the gym, some time in the chair can help me better prepare for being up and about the next day.
Ironically, despite all my research to ensure that I got the right kind of chair, I missed a few features! Chief among them is that the chair has multiple different routines. I'm grateful for this, as regular chair use also means that the massage routines can get somewhat repetitive. That is something I did not anticipate, and having these different routines can help ensure I always find something new with the chair.
In the end, this purchase made me happy, and there are multiple reasons behind that. The chair itself is great. It was a deeply valuable purchase for someone who is physically active, perpetually stressed, and always looking for new ways to relax.
However, this purchase has an intrinsic value that goes well beyond any knots that get worked out of my back. Buying this chair was, in a way, the fulfillment of a childhood dream. I always wanted a massage chair. Buying one made me feel successful. When I signed the paperwork for it, there was a little piece of me that absolutely felt like I had finally "made it." Even better was my long-standing history of being smart with money, which is what ultimately made the purchase affordable. It made me feel good, physically and mentally. Perhaps most importantly, this purchase made me feel successful.
